Question 2.2
Digital footprints or digital
breadcrumbs pose a significant danger to an individual and a company. This is because
publicly available information can be used to launch an attack at an individual
or an individual’s employer. A hacker’s
attack can be enhanced by obtain information that a lot of people disclose
publicly such as address, ID number, family, cell number and other details to
try and guess one’s passwords to gain access to individual and company sensitive
information. For this reason it is important for one to be very careful with what
they share online.
Having a digital footprint can
also open one to spam attacks, cyber bullying, scams, identity theft and other
serious digital crimes. Also, financial and banking details can be accessed to
the detriment of the owner. If one uses
the internet without being mindful of the amount of personal and company data
they place on public record, they open themselves to untold harm and danger of falling
victim to digital crimes.
